Power Scenario

Jharkhand State is rich in mineral but still it is a poor state reason being absence of viable industries in good number. It is basically due to shortage in power generation and old in-sufficient distribution system.

Structure of Power Department in Jharkhand:

Power Supply to Jharkhand: The total installed capacity of small/mini hydel power station in Jharkhand is 4050 kW out of which 4000 kW of Tilayia SHP is owned by DVC and 50 kW of portable micro hydel sets is owned by Bihar State Hydro Electric Power corporation.

Transmission Network: The transmission network is divided into two zone. Under each transmission zone there are four transmission circles which functions through divisions and sub-division.

As per the petition filed by JSEB before the JSERC to the total number of consumer was stated to be 6,29,127 of which unmetered connections are 3,20,845 .

Publications: The generation of hydel power in Jharkhand is negligible though there is need of appropriate mix of thermal and hydel power mix. Thermal power generation is taking toll of coal deposit of the state. Government of Jharkhand have decided to generation of power through renewable/non-conventional power source like solar powers, wind power and mini/macro hydel geothermal power. For this purpose, government has created JEREDA (Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency). It may be noted that there is methane gas also available in coal sector which can be developed as a power resource.

TERI has published project report on Power System master plan for Jharkhand. Under UNDP Economic Reform Programs of "Support to Government of Jharkhand", the work relating to formulation of Power System Master Plan was awarded to TERI. TERI has published the Report....more details
